The Association of Neighbourhood Houses BC is undertaking the redevelopment of Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House. The original house was constructed in 1964. The new house will have improved facilities allowing for the continuation of important community programs. Its estimated completion is 2026.
The project design and processes are being developed in relation to our project principles established through stakeholder engagement sessions.
In alignment with valuing community and advancing local leadership, Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House is proud to be implementing a socially-driven procurement strategy for the construction tender. This approach to procurement aims to actively engage diverse suppliers and subcontractors, promote fair labour practices, support local economies, and minimize environmental impacts. The new facility will be constructed to approximately 19,000 square feet with a hybrid concrete-mass timber structure. The building will be energy-efficient, use no natural gas, and will consist of a wide variety of purpose-built spaces serving community-building activities that support a strong and vibrant local community where all people can connect, belong, and thrive.
All the programming areas will embed prevention services and activities that build capacity, address isolation and vulnerabilities, improve food security, and contribute to the healthy lifelong development of community members.
